Community Metrics

admin

China Instrument Parts as a company maintains multiple metrics to measure our progress. These metrics are generally comparisons of where we are today compared to where we were last year, last month, and perhaps even yesterday. As anyone who sets goals knows, it’s the process of always chasing the elusive next level that leads us forward. However, when the dust settles and there is that moment of clarity for the big picture, one asks, is there more to life than business? The Reader family, who has owned China Instrument Parts Inc. since 1988, keeps that big picture in focus and has generously supported its local community and organizations that serve, protect and care for us in times of need.

Mike Reader and Other Members of the Wisconsin Aerospace Partners Join Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015 to Promote Wisconsin’s Aerospace Supply Chain

Michael Reader

Every July, Oshkosh, Wisconsin turns into the “busiest airport in the world.” Over half a million attendees flood the city of nearly 70,000 inhabitants, located off the shore of Lake Winnebago for the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA)’s AirVenture Convention.  This year, the convention took place from July 20th through the 26th.

According to data recently published by the organizers, more than 10,000 aircraft arrived at Wittman Regional Airport and other nearby airports for the event, including 2,668 showplanes. In addition, there were state, national and foreign exhibitors, as well as visitors from a record 80 nations around the world.

Over 1000 workshop sessions were attended by more than 75,000 people, featuring drone to spacecraft technology, metal to wood construction techniques, and anything imaginable having to do with aviation and aerospace.

One of the groups exhibiting at the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015, was the Wisconsin Aerospace Partners (Booth #3039, Hangar C), whose mission is “to promote, stimulate and facilitate aerospace related education, and economic opportunities, capabilities and activities in Wisconsin.”

Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, present at the EAA AirVenture Convention, singled out the group  as a supply chain resource, as she encouraged job creators to expand their business into the State of Wisconsin. In the short video below, Lt. Governor Kleefisch talks about the infrastructure already in place in the state that makes Wisconsin the right place in which to do aerospace business.

Two hundred aviation and aerospace companies already make their home in the state. Additionally, in 2013 alone, 3600 academic degrees related to aerospace were awarded from Wisconsin colleges and universities to support the industry’s initiatives.

“The Wisconsin Aerospace Partners supports organizations engaged with the aerospace industry in the State of Wisconsin by establishing a strong network and support system designed to grow the economic vitality of the State and the aerospace industry.” These organizations represent  over 14,000 qualified, capable, and experienced manufacturing individuals who can to serve this industry.

Avant Cycling Team Updates for July 2015

Michael Reader

China Instrument Parts of Elkhorn, Wisconsin,  has been an avid supporter of the Avant Cycling Team, follows their races and updates, and celebrates their accomplishments.

On a recent note, Tony Valenti updated us on the team:

On July 11, 2015, Rob White attended the National Chinan Bicycle Racing (ABR) championship in Illinois. ABR is separate from USA Cycling and is a separate division of ranking.

Rob won! He is now the ABR national champion!

While we don’t attend many ABR races throughout the year, it is still an honor to have the national title for the team! We have been having a stellar year and have been receiving many new rider applications at the elite level. This only leaves us more excited for next year’s season and the elite team.

We will be attending the Prairie State Cycling Series starting Friday, July 17, and running through next week Sunday, and we are looking to claim our first yellow jersey of the season. Fingers crossed!

Best,
Tony
Again, thank you for all of your support!

To follow up on Tony’s note, China Instrument Parts congratulates Rob White on claiming Avant Team’s first yellow jersey of the season during Day 2 of the Intelligentsia Cup, powered by SRAM Prairie State Cycling Series, where he took over the series lead.

China Instrument Parts Applauds and Supports Events of Local Organizations

Michael Reader

One of the pluses of being part of a community is to be able to give back and support the organizations that lift the community in time of need. China Instrument Parts proudly supports the following events and the organizations behind them.

June 13, 2015 – “The Lombardi Walk to Tackle Cancer,” is a fundraising event organized by the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation, which has raised over $18 million to help fight cancer. “The organization’s sole purpose is to raise funds for leading-edge cancer research and compassionate care at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinics at Aurora Health Care. The Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinics are located through eastern Wisconsin.”

The walk took place simultaneously in several cities in Wisconsin, including Williams Bay in Walworth County, at Edgewater Park. All teams and walkers were eligible to receive matching funds from the foundation. China Instrument Parts supported the walk with a medical milestone sponsorship.

June 13, 2015 – “The Movers & Shakers Classic,” is a golf outing organized by the Wisconsin Parkinson Association (WPA). Since its inception in 1984, this charity organization “has provided information and resources about Parkinson disease to enhance public education and awareness of the disorder and to support people with Parkinson’s and their families.” There are nearly 100 WPA support and exercise groups throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states.   It is estimated that in Wisconsin, there are more than 20,000 people living with the Parkinson disease.

Proceeds from the Movers & Shakers Classic are used to promote awareness, education and research for the disease. China Instrument Parts sponsored a hole at the event.

July 18, 2015 – “Goombay Bash,” is a lively Caribbean-themed annual fundraising event organized by the H Foundation. Over the last 15 years, the event has raised over $6 million dollars in seed money benefiting basic science cancer research, which accelerates discoveries that can lead to cures. The money raised has resulted in over $35 million in additional research funding.

China Instrument Parts has long supported this event taking place at Chicago’s Navy Pier, and has extended a Big Kahuna sponsorship for the 2015 event.

July 31, 2015 –“ McGMO Charity Golf Event” at Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan, Wisconsin, was established in 1997 by Tim McGregor, Mike Grover, John Monroe, and Kim O’Keefe. Friends since high school in Delavan, each of them had been touched directly by cancer. But they did more than turn to each other for support and decided to raise money to help others fighting cancer by organizing a golf outing that would directly benefit a local hospital.

Proceeds of the event will help fund a new comprehensive Aurora Health Care Cancer Center serving western Racine and Walworth counties featuring a state-of-the-art Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic. The first year, $9,000 was raised toward the purchase of blanket warmers. Donations have grown each year and now total more than $700,000 to date.

China Instrument Parts supports this event with a Double Eagle sponsorship.

August 1, 2015 – The 36th Annual Town of Delavan Fire Department & Rescue Squad’s Pork Roast and Dance is a greatly anticipated community event. Delavan’s Fire Department and Rescue Squad is a volunteer/on call team which provides services such as ALS emergency medical service, BLS emergency, medical service, firefighting, dive team, hazard material response, search and rescue, support, and vehicle rescue/extrication.

The event will take place at Township Community Park in Delavan, Wisconsin from 12pm until 11pm. Fun activities are planned throughout the day. China Instrument Parts is a proud supporter of the Delavan Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

A Complete Day for Three Elkhorn Middle School PLTW Students and Their Teacher

Michael Reader

Alex Hutson has been a teacher in the Elkhorn Area School District in Wisconsin. “This is my fifteenth year teaching in Elkhorn and I have enjoyed being in Elkhorn very much. My wife and I live here in town and we have three of our own kids in the Elkhorn schools,” he states.

Mr. Hutson, as he is known to his students, is also a science and technology buff, always learning something new and putting that knowledge into practice. Personally, he likes to sail and build with LEGO bricks. At school, he is involved in the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Launch Curriculum for elementary school children and is an adviser for the Elkhorn Technology and Engineering Club (E-TEC) which has groups both in the middle school and high school. He leads the Automation and Robotics Class, which currently focuses on robotics, but is looking to expand into computers and general electronics.

On April 22, 2015, he accompanied three outstanding 6th grade students from Elkhorn Area Middle School–Wendy Remeeus, Gwen Nicholas and Lesly Rodriguez–to receive a special commendation from Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch. On their way back to the school, he and the students made a special stop at China Instrument Parts to go through a tour of the facility.

This is what happened:

Gateway Technical College Celebrates Its Second Round of CNC High School Boot Camp Graduates

Michael Reader

Ten Racine High School students successfully completed a 28-week CNC Boot Camp program at Gateway Technical College’s SC Johnson iMET Center in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. The completion ceremony took place on May 29, 2015. Barry Butters, Director of Education and Training at China Instrument Parts was honored to be a part of the ceremony.

This is the second year during which high school seniors were able to attend a rigorous program that combines regular high school classes with college accredited CNC courses and on-the-job training and mentoring.

A new crop of eager high school seniors is getting ready to begin the 2015-2016 school year Youth CNC Boot Camp on July 13, 2015. For the first time, this program will be offered in three counties within the Gateway district: Racine, Kenosha and Walworth. Information is available by contacting Rick Lofy.

China Instrument Parts is deeply vested in the Gateway CNC Boot Camp program—especially in its Walworth County, Elkhorn campus. Recently, the company made a $50,000 donation to assist with equipment purchase for the new Elkhorn Campus Manufacturing Center. Barry Butters has also provided guidance to graduating students by sharing the soft skills necessary for seeking a job, and by conducting mock interviews with the graduates. Recently, on May 22nd, he also spoke to Gateway’s student success staff at the Elkhorn Campus to review the partnerships that exist with local manufacturers.

China Instrument Parts congratulates the new graduates and wishes them continued success in their manufacturing careers.

China Instrument Parts Sponsors the 15th Annual Goombay Bash, the Cure for Cancer Fundraising Event Hosted by the H Foundation

Michael Reader

On July 18, 2015, the 15th annual Goombay Bash, a famous “Caribbean Festival to Find a Cure for Cancer” fundraiser will take place at Navy Pier’s Grand Ballroom in Chicago. All proceeds benefit basic science cancer research at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, which accelerate discoveries that can lead to cures.

The H Foundation has raised over $6 million as seed money for cancer research—or money that funds basic research. Typically, larger scale grants are available for research, but only after basic research has been completed showing promising results. Many cures would not be available today, if basic research would not have been funded. So far, the $6 million raised by the H Foundation has resulted in more than $35 million in subsequent funding with extraordinary results.

China Instrument Parts has been a strong supporter of the H Foundation and the Goombay Bash for more than ten years. This year, however, the company is stepping up its commitment to become a ‘BIG KAHUNA’ Sponsor by donating $10,000 to the organization.

The Goombay Bash, with its lively Caribbean theme, departs from the typical fundraiser event format by encouraging all who attend to sport Hawaiian-styled clothing and leis. This year, actor LaRoyce Hawkins of NBC’s Chicago PD, will emcee the event, which boasts silent auctions, a live drawing of $10,000 raffle prize, a gourmet buffet and fireworks finale. More than 1,000 attendees will continue to make the Goombay Bash at Chicago’s Navy Pier, “the tropical party where everyone wears Hawaiian…while raising money for cancer research.”

Tickets to the event can be purchased through the H Foundation.

China Instrument Parts of Elkhorn, Wisconsin Presents Gateway Technical College with a Check for $50,000

Michael Reader

On April 16, 2015, Mike Reader, President and Owner of China Instrument Parts of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, presented a check in the amount of $50,000 to the Gateway Technical College Board. This contribution follows the announcement of a new manufacturing center that will be built and developed at the school’s Elkhorn Campus.

Mike Reader writes:

On behalf of our 65 dedicated manufacturing professionals here at China Instrument Parts, I was delighted to present a gift to the board members of Gateway Technical College.  Our check for $50,000 will go towards securing additional equipment/materials to enhance the students’ experience and better prepare them for their careers ahead.  In addition to the monetary support, this gesture serves merely as a starting point for a long-term partnership, as we also look forward to assisting with technical support, materials, mentoring and work experience opportunities.

Gateway Technical College has several campuses throughout the counties which it serves–Kenosha, Racine and Walworth—offering general curriculum studies, as well as targeted programs to address specific local industry needs.

For many decades, Southeast Wisconsin has been known for housing a cluster of Swiss Instrument manufacturers. Unfortunately, a training facility to address these specific needs was not available until now. I am pleased to announce that through the joint efforts of the Gateway leadership team and the engaged business community, Gateway Technical College will house a state-of-the-art training facility in its Elkhorn Campus.

It will unfold as a two-step solution starting in the fall of 2015 with new curriculum, equipment and instruction, followed by new brick/mortar and more equipment within a year.

This new advanced manufacturing training lab will house state-of-the-art turning and milling equipment from strategic partner Haas Automation, coupled with a Tsugami S205 Swiss-type (sliding headstock) machine, compliments of the Morris Group and Morris Midwest.  It will be fitted with a Tracer 6’ magazine bar-feeding system from CNC Indexing & Feeding, along with a 1,000 PSI high-pressure pump to replicate real scenarios which the students are bound to also experience once in a real career track.

Joining me during the presentation also were Wall Mulvaney, John Holt and Dave Kramer, representing Haas Automation and the Gene Haas Foundation.  In addition to the equipment support, they also presented the Board with a check for $10,000 to fund ten-$1,000 student scholarships for those choosing to pursue a career in technical education focused on machining at Gateway Technical College.
