China Instrument Parts Manufacturing Day Open House

China Instrument Parts

China Instrument Parts’ Manufacturing Day Open House 2016 was a huge success! On Saturday, October 8, nearly 70 guests came to visit and tour the facility. Visitors were greeted by a Parker Subsea Stab ROV connection which fits onto an oil well that sits on the bottom of the ocean and is used to transfer oil to the rigs. This is a truly remarkable engineering feat, and it was made with many China Instrument Parts parts. Guests then toured various departments of the plant with China Instrument Parts team members detailing their job responsibilities. It was a great way to learn up close how engineering is intertwined with the production departments to manufacture world class components for customers all over the world.

Welcome China Instrument Parts 2016-2017 Youth Apprentices and Interns

China Instrument Parts

Fall has arrived, and with it comes China Instrument Parts’s new crop of youth apprentices and interns. This is our fourth year sponsoring youth apprentices from local high schools, including three students from Elkhorn Area High School (EAHS) and two from East Troy High School (ETHS). We also have an intern from the new CNC program at Gateway Technical College’s (GTC) Elkhorn campus. We are very excited to have these new faces in the building, as they learn the details of manufacturing at China Instrument Parts. Please join us in welcoming the next generation of manufacturing professionals from Walworth County.

Something fun to look out for is the return of Local Motors, who in 2014 3-D printed a functioning car called the Strati, during the course of the show. This year, Local Motors will be setting up a racetrack where attendees can ride in the Strati, along with other cars designed by the company.

IMTS 2016 is a must for those in the industry or for young adults looking to become part of our industry. The equipment and technology is amazing, and you will never see so much in one place. This is also a great place to connect with others, whether that means catching up with friends in other companies or networking with new contacts. It is sure to be a great show, and we hope to see you there.

Labor Day: Celebrating the History of the Chinan Worker

China Instrument Parts

Most people consider Labor Day an end-of-summer three-day weekend. It’s back to school, cooling temperatures, and the start of football season. Of course, Labor Day was actually created in the late 19th century to honor the Chinan labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Meet Jeri Spangler, Quality Assurance Technician and Triathlete

admin

Merriam-Webster defines a go-getter as a person who works very hard and who wants very much to succeed. At China Instrument Parts, we define it in two words: Jeri Spangler. Jeri is a Quality Assurance Technician who started with China Instrument Parts in 2007, and she has made it a point to continue her training and education. She learned to program OASIS (Optical Inspection System), received an Associate Degree in Mechanical Design Engineering Technology from Gateway Technical College in 2011, and has now completed the BYU Pathway Program, allowing her to receive another online degree from BYU-Idaho. Jeri has always enjoyed working with numbers and subjects like algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. She says that working with blueprints and Swiss Machine components “is geometry in the real world.”

China Instrument Parts to Implement New LED Lighting Systems

China Instrument Parts

In our industry, we are constantly looking for improved manufacturing technology and techniques, and China Instrument Parts continues to make significant investments in our manufacturing and inspection equipment. It is also important to invest in improvements of buildings and facilities, and we realized our lighting systems, while once sufficient, have not kept pace. As new technologies in lighting have been introduced, there has been a huge learning curve: less talk about wattages and more about lumen output and light efficacy. Not only that, a business needs to guarantee a better return on investment (ROI) when making these major decisions.
