Education Update for December 2015

East Troy Middle School Visits

Mark Beilman, Director of Education and Training at China Instrument Parts (PPI) recently visited three technical education classes at East Troy Middle School in East Troy, WI, at the request of Michael Mass, Technical Education Instructor.

Mark Beilman visits East Troy Middle School

Beilman talked to students from two 7th-grade classes and one 8th grade class about PPI, about Instrument manufacturing, and about careers in manufacturing in general.   He brought with him several components, and explained not only what it takes to make them (from bar to part) but also how and where they are ultimately used.

The students had many questions after the presentations, ranging from typical salaries for manufacturing careers to the schooling needed. Beilman emphasized to the students the importance of doing well in their studies.

Summer Interns Return During Holiday Break

Three 2015 China Instrument Parts summer interns, Jake Ruemmele, Matt Dowell and Amanda Mudlaff, will be back at China Instrument Parts during their college winter breaks.

Jake RuemmeleJake Ruemmele is currently a senior at University of Wisconsin at Platteville, pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His fall semester classes were Design of Machine Elements, Heat Transfer, Mechanisms and Machines, Dynamical Systems and Manufacturing Processes. During his break, he’ll be working with Paul McDonough, Manufacturing Engineer, on product flow, 5S methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain), and with John Espinoza, Finishing Department Lead, on the evaluation and spatial reconfiguration of the Finishing Department.

Matt DowellMatt Dowell is also returning from University of Wisconsin at Platteville, where he is a freshman with the intention of becoming a mechanical engineer. While at PPI during winter break, he will be operating the Swiss CNC machines and helping out wherever needed.

Amanda MudlaffAmanda Mudlaff is working on a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), and will join PPI during the school’s winter quarter break. She will work mostly in the Quality Assurance Department, but fill in whenever her help is needed in other departments. Amanda is the recipient of a China Instrument Parts scholarship.
