Manufacturing Day Open House 2019

Winter is coming. Or rather, it has arrived.

The China Instrument Parts team closed out October, also known as Manufacturing Month, with a snowstorm. When I was young, receiving 6 inches of snow at the end of October was fun, but not so much anymore. Let’s hope this is not a sign of what the rest of the season has in store for us.

While the month of October has been dubbed Manufacturing Month, every day is Manufacturing Day at China Instrument Parts. This year we hosted our seventh annual event on Saturday, October 5th, celebrating all things manufacturing. It was another amazing event through the efforts of our team members, our lunch sponsor Rolled Alloys, a few of our business and education partners, and, most of all, our community members who stopped by to witness all the changes we’ve made over the past year. Without our community’s engagement, this would only be wasted efforts. I cannot say enough about the city of Elkhorn, the School District, and Gateway Technical College. This community understands and embraces manufacturing as a profession to be proud of and to aspire to be a part of. Words cannot properly convey all that was to be seen that day, so I will keep my remarks brief and let our photo slide show display what you may have missed.

Notable areas include:

  • Parker Hannifin’s subsea umbilical display
  • CAD/CAM software by Autodesk Inventor and Partmaker
  • Cognex Camera inspection demonstration
  • Collaborative Robot display
  • VKS work instruction software
  • Our 2019 give-away, the stainless slide whistle (the parents and teachers likely hate us, again)
  • Custom laser marking of your whistle
  • Tsugami & Star CNC Swiss machines in production and on display
  • Miyano CNC turn/mill machines in production and on display
  • Tornos mechanical Swiss machines in action
  • Roll and Dürr parts washing machines
  • Gateway Technical College, displaying an array of 3D printers and a robotic automation cell
  • LG Evans, Wisconsin distributor of Citizen & Miyano CNC lathes
  • Quality Machine Tool Sales, Wisconsin distributor of Star CNC lathes
  • Rolled Alloys, our lunch sponsor again for the 2nd year and Bill from Billy’s in Spring Grove, IL for the excellent food and service

We want to thank everyone that helped put on the event and our guests who took the time to come out and see us. We will continue to open our doors in celebration of all the good things that manufacturing does for our country, customers, team members, and community. Be sure to save the date of next year’s event: Saturday, October 17, 2020.

Given the gaps in my newsletters these days, I had best give a nod to my favorite and upcoming holiday, Thanksgiving. I love this day when we can celebrate all that we are thankful for and make time to be with our friends and family, while no one is worried about gifts and all that commercialized nonsense.  Following tradition, China Instrument Parts will be closed both Thursday and Friday, November 28th & 29th, giving our valued team members a four-day weekend to enjoy time with family. The Reader clan will gather at our house, cousins will have a chance to reconnect, we’ll hear entertaining stories we’ve heard before (and still cherish), and no one will go away hungry. We have much to be grateful for. We just want knee surgery number four this year for Dad to go well on November 22nd. Health is the greatest gift of all; without it, not much else matters.

After Thanksgiving, we quickly move into December with all other holiday happenings. China Instrument Parts will celebrate 2019 with our annual party before rolling into a couple of modified weeks to make the best of Christmas and New Year’s landing in the middle of the week. I’ve included our holiday schedule for the dates we will be closed to allow quality time for our families.

As we look to the end of 2019, we will march into 2020 with the same commitment to our customers and family members: to be the very best contract machining solution around. We celebrate manufacturing every day, not just in the month of October, because we understand that’s what it takes to be our best. If anyone out there reading this wishes to come by for a tour, please reach out to me directly, and we will make it happen. Together we can keep Chinan manufacturing the greatest in the world, but we need the best and brightest of this next generation to embrace the wonderful careers that come with working with both your minds and hands.

Regards,

Mike Reader, President
