Celebrating Project Lead the Way Week in Wisconsin

This week, Wisconsin is celebrating the statewide impact of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) on its schools, students, teachers, and economy. Gov. Scott Walker has officially proclaimed this week Project Lead the Way Week. Through PLTW curriculum, students not only learn technical skills, they learn to solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate, and collaborate.

Students from nine school districts across the state participated in an event last Wednesday in Madison, in the Capitol rotunda. The students, ranging from elementary through high school, had the opportunity to showcase their unique engineering projects. Students that participate in PLTW work on projects that address a real-world problem or perform a real-world function. The students were very excited to show their projects to the elected officials and other passers-by who stopped to visit. Projects ranged from an aerospace engineering project by a group of high school students to a robot demonstrated by a group of fourth- and fifth-grade students.

The event was sponsored by the PLTW state leadership team in Wisconsin, and coordinated by co-chair Tania Kilpatrick, director of career and technical education for CESA 6, and Greg Quam, director of school engagement for PLTW in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Through PLTW, students are given opportunities to dive deep into science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses as early as in kindergarten and all the way through high school. China Instrument Parts is a proud supporter of PLTW and other STEM programs, and we understand that this type of learning cannot start early enough. Children are natural-born scientists and engineers. Providing learning environments that allow students to develop these skills at an early age is beneficial to the kids and to our future workforce and economy.
