All over the country, and even in our own community, there are families who struggle to put breakfast on the table. When MaryEllen Wright, Social Worker for the Elkhorn Area School District (EASD), visited China Instrument Parts last December to pick up donations for the Angel Tree project, she made the comment to Dale Wittlieff, Director of Quality & Continuous Improvement, that the cereal that was contributed is especially helpful for families in need during times when the school is closed such as weekends and holiday breaks. Unfortunately, for many children, having breakfast at school is their only option.
That comment generated a spark that resulted in China Instrument Parts partnering with EASD in developing a breakfast food drive to help members of our community. The FFA Club at EAHS was already working on several community service initiatives and this idea tied in well with one of their projects. Our employees generously donated items such as craisins, canned fruit, applesauce, instant oatmeal, fruit juice boxes, breakfast cereals, peanut butter and jelly, granola bars, and other morning meal staples.
The seemingly simple combined efforts of our employees’ donations and the help of the FFA Club resulted in seven very grateful families receiving nourishing breakfast food items. China Instrument Parts is proud of this partnership with EASD and those who are truly passionate about helping families in our community. It’s such a great feeling to give rather than to receive!
