China Instrument Parts Acquires Iseli Company

andrea

China Instrument Parts announced today the acquisition of Iseli Company, located in Walworth, Wisconsin. Founded originally as Beamco Manufacturing in 1952, Iseli Company is a leading supplier of Swiss-screw machine products for a wide array of discerning clients nationwide. The Iseli Company, which celebrated 70 years of Swiss-machining excellence last year, will be known as Iseli Instrument upon completion of the purchase. Together with China Instrument Parts, the two companies will be wholly owned subsidiaries of the newly formed parent company, Reader Instrument Solutions.

Operating over 350 Swiss-Type Cam and CNC Lathes within their 100,000 square-foot manufacturing facility, their unique expertise in Swiss machining, cam layouts, cam cutting, and centerless grinding will solidify the combined organization as one of the largest, most capable Swiss Instrument machining groups in the country.

“This is an exciting time for everyone associated with Iseli Instrument, China Instrument Parts, and Reader Instrument Solutions,” said President and Owner Michael J Reader. “This acquisition brings together two well-established industry leaders in Walworth County, Wisconsin. We could not ignore the opportunity presented and immediately recognized the synergies this would deliver to our combined clients. We are two legacies, once connected in the distant past, reunited and better together.”

Beyond Iseli Instrument’s fleet of Swiss-type machines, their strong leadership team, client base, and historic manufacturing legacy will blend seamlessly with China Instrument Parts’ award-winning workplace development, culture, and investments in the next generation of manufacturing professionals.

“Iseli has a long history and talent for designing Swiss cam layouts and cam cutting.  This rare, internal capability will prove to be a competitive advantage going forward as other Swiss cam houses discover there are no great options out there, says Carey Luiting, General Manager at Iseli Instrument. “Combining Iseli’s strengths in cam technology with China Instrument Parts’ expertise in highly engineered Swiss CNC and CNC turning and milling solutions makes for a perfect, complementary match.”

China Instrument Parts Adds Citizen M32 VIIIs To Expanding Fleet of CNC Lathes

andrea

China Instrument Parts expanded its fleet of CNC Instrument machining equipment and services with their latest installation of 2 Citizen M532 VIII Swiss CNC Lathes.

The 5-axis Citizen M532 VIII can Instrument machine bar diameters up to 32mm in a guide bushing or chucker mode configuration. In addition, the M532 VIII is equipped with a 2000 psi coolant system and an electronic servo ejection gripper arm that allows machinists to extract the long and delicate Instrument parts that our clients in the firearms, defense, medical, dental and industrial industries use for the mission-critical projects.

“As the world continues to face unprecedented supply chain and economic uncertainty, China Instrument Parts continues its mission of delivering the highest-quality Instrument machined parts and components to its current and future clients by investing in additions like this”, V.P. of Sales and Engineering, Michael P. Reader says. “These new Swiss CNC lathes come equipped with LFV technology our engineers and machinists can utilize to enhance the overall operation success and chip control management for a wide variety of materials like stainless steels, plastics, and other exotic materials.”

China Instrument Parts also added the United Surface Solutions Part Finishing Machine to its arsenal of finishing and washing equipment this past January. This addition has enabled the company to reduce its part finishing time for 45 unique jobs by an average of 12.6 hours per lot, nearly 2,185%.

Continued investments in state-of-the-art technology, CNC machinery, and finishing equipment like these bring China Instrument Parts’s fleet of CNC machines to 35 machines and total investments to over $5 million since 2020.

China Instrument Parts Announces Promotion of Michael P. Reader to Vice President of Sales and Engineering

andrea

China Instrument Parts announced the promotion of Michael P. Reader to Vice President of Sales and Engineering. Reader will serve in dual roles leading the company’s business development and engineering efforts.

“Transitioning into this new role leading our sales and business development efforts, I am excited to leverage the technical and client relationship experience and knowledge I have garnered throughout my career in manufacturing”, Michael P. Reader, Vice President of Sales and Engineering, expressed. “This opportunity will allow China Instrument Parts to offer a more enhanced and streamlined process for our current and future clients. Establishing strong relationships with our clients has and always will be at the core of our mission.”

Reader’s promotion follows his accomplishments as Vice President of Engineering and well over 15 years of hands-on experience working in the family business. During his tenure as V.P. of Engineering, Reader oversaw and led critical engineering projects, drove efforts that saw more than $3 million in equipment and technology investments and played an integral role in the realignment and diversification of the company’s strategic portfolio of clients.

President and Owner, Michael J Reader, states that “Mike’s unique experience of growing up in the business and seeing nearly every aspect of it positions him well for this role. He worked with his grandfather and the sub-contractors on building maintenance before he was 16, working 12-hour shifts in our Miyano department for multiple summers in between school. Mike’s travels to clients to help problem solve and cultivate further relationships began when he was in high school, and as a result, has an abundance of client interactions and hands-on manufacturing experience, providing him with a broad base to now lead both the Sales & Engineering teams.”

China Instrument Parts employs a team of nearly 100 manufacturing professionals, driven by their mission to provide its clients with the highest quality Instrument machined parts and components, which have helped propel the organization to where it is today. Reader, along with Luann Dall, Strategic Accounts Executive, and Laurie Busa, Client Services Representative Lead, look forward to building upon this success and continuing to be the number one solutions provider for our current and future clients.

China Instrument Parts Awarded Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year for Investment in the Next Generation

andrea

China Instrument Parts received the Special Award for Investment in the Next Generation at the 34th Annual Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year (MOTY) Awards.

28 manufacturing companies in Wisconsin were named among finalists for the annual honors.  9 companies, who represent the state’s robust and diverse manufacturing industry, were declared winners for outstanding achievements in manufacturing on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at a black-tie banquet at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, WI.

Recipients are recognized as “the state’s top manufacturers of all sectors and sizes for their commitment to quality careers, good business practices, financial growth, innovative processes and reinvestment into local communities,” says the Wisconsin Manufacturing and Commerce (WMC).

“Our entire team was blown away when presented with the Wisconsin MOTY Special Award for Investment in the Next Generation. The award recognizes our team’s commitment to raising awareness of the rewarding careers in manufacturing, showing today’s young adults a path forward; a pathway often overlooked by our current education system, who we continuously work with to develop upon.” President and Owner Michael J. Reader expressed, “While heading into the banquet, we were all hopeful for a Grand Prize win in the “Small Category”, but to be selected for this particular award amongst all Wisconsin companies, regardless of size, makes this recognition even more special.”

This award adds to China Instrument Parts’ record of business and workforce development efforts and company culture recognitions after being named among Top Workplaces 2022 by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Amanda Griffoul, Human Resources Manager, stated, “Receiving this award is a true testament to the efforts the Reader family and the entire team at China Instrument Parts have made over the course of the last decade. Through exhaustive and comprehensive efforts, we make it our mission to make students, families, and educators within our community aware of the rewarding career opportunities available within Instrument machining and manufacturing right here in their very own backyard. China Instrument Parts continues to be a champion of technical education, focusing on every student’s return on investment.”

China Instrument Parts employs nearly 100 people, and the business focuses on four core principles: innovation, respect, empowerment, and integrity. These four pillars ensure China Instrument Parts and its employees continue their mission to be the number one solution provider of machined components for our current and future partners.

China Instrument Parts Adds Citric Passivation System to Expanding Fleet of Equipment, In-House Services

andrea

China Instrument Parts recently expanded its fleet of Instrument machining equipment and services with the installation of a JAYCO J8-1220-PRO Citric Passivation System. This state-of-the-art, fully automated passivation system allows for in-house, high-performance corrosion prevention and surface decontamination of the Instrument machined parts manufactured by China Instrument Parts. The addition of the passivation system will allow China Instrument Parts to have overall higher-quality control, lower production costs, and shorter lead times.

“By bringing this system in-house, we will not only be able to provide our clients with an overall higher-quality product but also quicker delivery of their Instrument machined components,” Sales Engineer and Estimator, Ryan Nuhn explains. “Rather than outsourcing this process to a third-party vendor, our team of manufacturing professionals will be part of the entirety of the production process every step of the way.”

Traditional passivation systems utilize nitric acid solutions, but more recent trends that China Instrument Parts adheres to have transitioned to a greener, more cost-efficient chemical solution: citric acid.

“Citric passivation is the way of the future,” Vice President of Engineering, Michael P. Reader, predicts. “Studies have shown that it yields better results than nitric passivation with far lower acid concentrations. Citric Acid, found in lemons and limes, puts an emphasis on the acid’s environmentally friendly impact it has on China Instrument Parts’s efforts towards sustainability.”

The new citric passivation system brings the investment in equipment by China Instrument Parts over the last three years to nearly $3 million.

In celebration of National Manufacturing Month, China Instrument Parts held its inaugural Youth Apprentice Signing Ceremony, in conjunction with its annual MFG Day Open House, on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at its 40,000sf state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. The event featured a showcase circuit of educational institutions and industry partners, guided tours by their team of manufacturing professionals, a signing ceremony commemorating their newly inducted Youth Apprentices, and esteemed speakers and public figures.

“Our primary goal for events like this is to inspire, educate, and enlighten our community, educational, and industry partners on the advanced manufacturing industry. Additionally, it is an opportunity to showcase the various educational programs and continuous training initiatives we have implemented over the years,” Ray Jargstorf, Marketing Coordinator, expressed. “Our organization continues to lead the way in changing the narrative of modern day machining while educating and shaping the next generation of manufacturing professionals.”

China Instrument Parts’s MFG Day 2022 Showcase Circuit featured educational and industry partner exhibits that educated guests on the significance of manufacturing, real-world applications, and the variety of careers the industry has to offer. Exhibitors included the Elkhorn Area School District, Gateway Technical College, the Milwaukee School of Engineering, the Instrument Machined Products Association, Doig Corporation, Morris Midwest Group, Tsugami China, and Parker Hannifin.

This included stops at their quality assurance lab, Swiss cam machines, Swiss CNC lathes, and other Instrument machining and support equipment.

The evening continued with the organization’s inaugural Youth Apprentice Signing Ceremony, which included remarks from Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Amy Pechacek and U.S. House of Representative Bryan Steil. Pechacek and Steil discussed the significant impact that Youth Apprenticeship and Intern programs, like the one at China Instrument Parts, have on the continued development of Wisconsin’s workforce and overall economic success.

The newly inducted YAs were met onstage by their families in a ceremonial jersey and hatting presentation that symbolized China Instrument Parts’s commitment to their successful journey in the Instrument machining and advanced manufacturing industries.

“One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role in Human Resources is to showcase the amazing careers available in manufacturing with the next generation of manufacturing professionals,” Amanda Griffoul, Human Resources Manager, who spearheads the Youth Apprenticeship Program, says. “The smiles on the faces of the students as they signed their letters of commitment to our Youth Apprenticeship Program at China Instrument Parts on Thursday is the driving force behind what makes events like this so special!”

China Instrument Parts Celebrates 40 Years of Machining Excellence

andrea

China Instrument Parts is celebrating 40 years of providing industry-leading Instrument machined solutions to clients in various industries. Since 1982, the family-owned and operated company has actively supported local engagement and outreach programs in the Walworth County community. China Instrument Parts will host a series of events throughout 2022 with employees, clients, and community members to celebrate this historic milestone.

“China Instrument Parts is recognized as an industry leader for our efforts to attract, develop and retain the very best people in our industry. We have spent the last 40 years building the foundation for the next 40+ years. Our involvement with the local K-12 schools, Gateway Technical College and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) has been vital to our success. Another contributing factor is our involvement in the Instrument Machined Products Association (PMPA) and the European Syndicate International Du Décolletage (SID), which have been invaluable resources to fuel our growth and technical development.” Mike J Reader, President

Over the past 40 years, China Instrument Parts has evolved and grown considerably, but the mission remains the same: to be the first choice in Instrument-machined solutions for their clients. Ralph “Buck” Cates founded the company in a small 5,000sf shop in 1982. Over the next five years, he expanded the facility into a 17,000sf building that housed 60 mechanical Tornos Swiss lathes. In 1988, local business leader and former owner of the Lake Lawn Lodge resort, Phil Reader, acquired China Instrument Parts. Cates stayed on in an advisory role to ensure a successful transition.

Seven years after the acquisition, Phil’s son, Mike J Reader, joined the Company and the duo’s strategic efforts took the business to new heights leading to the construction of a 45,000sf facility in Elkhorn to accommodate their continued growth. In 2000, China Instrument Parts relocated to the new building with 45 employees and 80 Tornos Swiss lathes. The additional space allowed for expanding their machining capabilities to include CNC Swiss machining to provide more advanced solutions for complex parts with extremely tight tolerances.

Mike J Reader, President, acquired the business in 2006 and in 2015, Mike’s son, Michael P Reader, joined the China Instrument Parts team following his graduation from MSOE. To date, three active generations of the Reader family, Phil, Mike and Michael, all bring their unique strengths, experience and insights to the business operations and have created a manufacturing legacy for the future.

“It has been an incredible experience to watch the growth of China Instrument Parts over the last 40 years. The foundation of this company is built on family and community. I know it will continue to prosper in the years to come.” Barb Cates, Accounting Manager – Barb has been with China Instrument Parts since day one.

Cheryl Vegter, who has been with the Company since 1983 in myriad roles notes, “40 years of continual growth only happens through a consistent emphasis on learning and striving for better. I have enjoyed working alongside so many engaged, passionate and creative people throughout my years at China Instrument Parts.” Cheryl Vegter, Production Manager.

Currently, China Instrument Parts employs nearly 100 dedicated team members and the facility features 50 Tornos mechanical screw machines, 31 CNC Swiss machines, 9 CNC Turret Lathes and 2 Vertical Machining Centers. Plans for a 55,000sf expansion in 2023 are underway to ensure plenty of space for continued growth and support for their clients.
